Au Natural

I am getting more and more crunchy over time. Crunchy? As in, granola-y, tree-hugger? I used to say I was crispy because I am was concerned for the environment and such, but not to a great degree. I recycled and used cloth diapers. I nursed and made my own baby food for Brady. I tried to do things as naturally as possible, because if it's natural it's got to be better right?

While preparing for this baby we've learned that there are more options out there than an epidural. I had an intrathecal with Brady. Not the best experience of my life. In fact, the whole labor experience was not the best of my life. Only, I probably wouldn't have known any differently had I not had some experienced ladies in my circle of friends. The most eye opening on being my Sister-in-Law who was up and walking around 15 minutes after giving birth to her 4th child, sans medication. Prior to delivery with Brady I said, "Drug me up!!" Now I'm thinking a bit differently.

The body has been able to give birth without intervention (medications and such) for millennia. The body KNOWS what to do and so does the baby. Yeah, it's gonna hurt. It's gonna hurt like HECK!! But I've come to realize something, do the right/good/better-for-you(-and-baby) thing isn't always the easiest.

So as long as baby and mommy aren't in any danger, we plan to have a natural birth. We are taking a birthing class and preparing our selves for labor. I haven't gotten too crunchy and still plan to deliver in a hospital with my OBGYN. Maybe next baby we'll get even more crazy and look into water birth should facilities be available.

I think that's great! I may change my mind when it comes to it, but having to learn how to deal with these contractions, I've picked up some great breathing and coping exercises. I've had really hard contractions that I've been able to work through. I don't know, like I said, I may change my mind, but I may try natural too! Save $800, and be able to walk right after. Good luck Steph! I admire your bravery =)

That's awesome that you're going to try a natural birth. I think the only way I wouldn't get an epidural is if I showed up and they told me I was at a 10 and couldn't get one! I hope everything goes well and how you plan. I can't believe how close you are!

More power to you if you can do it! My sister in laws go naturally and I don't know ho they do it! The epideral is for me though!!!

That is soooo coool! The best thing is to make sure your OBGYN is cool with you laboring and birthing in any position you feel best, it will really make the experience amazing.
