I like to eat, eat. What a treat!

Eat, eat cereal!! On Saturday Brady got his first solid food. Actually, I'm not sure you could call it a "solid" food since it was 2 ounces liquid with 1 tablespoon rice cereal. He was unsure about the whole thing, but learned to open his mouth when the spoon came near. He even tried to get it into his mouth. That usually resulted in him flicking the spoon's contents onto his face.

He did A LOT better than I expected. I had prepared for food flying everywhere and it taking an hour to feed him. He has had two more servings of cereal since then. Today he opened up his mouth and leaned forward for more. The best part about this is I'm finally getting to use all the "liquid gold" I've got stored in my freezer. You know what that means?? More room for ICE CREAM!

Now, please enjoy this brief presentation...thank you.

Survey Says: "You're an Idiot!"

After a nice long stroll through our local Wal-Mart (which I HATE our Wal-Mart and surprisingly, we didn't spend any money) I made a nice "remember when..." moment for my self. Carl was putting Brady in the car. The woman from the freshly parked truck next to us looked at me with our cart and said, "If you don't need that, we'll take it."
Thinking she was referring to my baby, who people frequently offer to take off my hands, I responded, "Oh, I need it for my tax rebate," I smiled and laughed and got along my way putting the cart with the others. The woman laughed politely, but obviously didn't get my joke.
Carl heard the conversation and thought to himself, "Oh she can handle that." And thought nothing further.
As I turn around and almost skip back to the car because of my ever-so-witty comment, Carl looks at me with a puzzled expression. He asks, "Steph, why didn't you give them the cart?" as if I had done something horribly wrong!
I stood there watching the family, child in arms, walk up to the store and exclaim "I'm so retarded!!" I proceed to pronouce my mental-ness for the next five minutes while Carl laughs and makes jokes about it.
I'm prwetty shure they don't give you tax webates for shopping carts....

The face of jelousy

This right here is the face of envy. Why am I so envious?? Well, you see, Carl gets off work early one day each week. This last week we needed to go grocery shopping on this particular day. I had just put Brady down for a nap upon Carl's arrival. So Carl changes his clothes and gets comfortable. I am busying myself with blogging and taking advantage of the baby-free time. I get up to get ready for shopping and, lo, and behold, this is what I find..........

He got a 20-25 minute nap!! Oh, so jealous am I!!

*Also, happy freakin' Pioneer Day. I am envious of those women who get to have their hubbies home on this beloved holiday. Westward, ho!

Baby Finds Feet

He'd been onto this idea that he has feet for a while. Last week, during a diaper change, he found them!!! He does try to get them into his mouth to suck on them, but hasn't been too successful yet. Did you know there is a pose in yoga called "happy baby?" You lie on your back and put your legs in the air then grab the soles of your feet. Brady definitely was a happy baby upon this discovery.

Nunderwears!!

I won't spend much time on this subject, or else I'll get too detailed and no one needs that. Let me just say that I never thought new underwear could make one so happy! After having tent-like maternity clothes, it is great to have properly fitting attire. Not too big, not too small (like my pre-pregnancy ones,) just the right size. So, to sum it up, YEA FOR UNDERWEAR THAT FITS!!!

Ho Hum...

Thanks to everyone who responded to my tough times. I really needed them. Things are getting better. Mr. Brady and I are trying to find something everyday to have as a project or outing. He is rolling over more and more. It scares me that he rolled over during his nap today and was sleeping on his tummy. Being the ever-worrying mother that I am, I called the pediatrician's office. Silly me. The nurse said I basically have two choices: 1. To keep and eye on him and keep flipping him back over (he doesn't do it on his own yet) or 2. Let him sleep and just make sure there is nothing cushy in the crib. No more cute Teddy Bear in the corner or soft blankies to cuddle up with.

Carl was especially sweet the other day. He's a good guy, ya know? I think I'll keep him for a while longer. Once again, all is well in the Behunin household until everything goes awry again.

Venting

This is a no picture post. Ya'll don't want to see me all frumpy and non-showered like, so I'll nix the pictures. I've been going through some emotionally/spiritually challenging times the last week. This becoming a Mom thing is harder than I thought. I'm finding stress in every aspect of my life. Not-yet-mommies may think "what's so hard about stying home with a cute little baby and doing nothing but a little house work here and there?"
And I answer, "Oh, nothing, expect you feel bad if you leave the baby to play alone too long by himself. You wonder if you're eternally scarring him by not picking him up at the first whimper, or the second, or the third. You feel it imposible to anything but the required housework, i.e. dishes, laundry, cook dinner a few times a week, when little darling just looks at you with the 'I'm so bored' pout. And to top it all off, when your loving husband finally does come home from work, you hand the baby over, only to feel guilty that he's been working all day too and now he's got to care for the baby. You try to weigh which is the greater evil: A Daddy who just came home from work and now gets to entertain little bumpkin so you can maybe gat a thing or two done around the house, or allow Daddy some down time cuz he deserves it and earns all the money while you try to cope for just a few more hours with the little baby who has had a long day too and is cranky at this point so both of your nerves are shot.
Next Issue:
I feel like I have NOTHING to wear. I don ever-so-sexy basketball shorts and a T-shirt everyday. I'd like to get up and get ready everyday, even if I have no where to go, but all the going-out clothes I own don't seem to fit. So why don't I go buy news clothes that fit?? Well, I've tried, and they all seem to change shape two weeks later and be horribly wrong for me. I don't feel right spending Carl's hard earned money like that. So, I sit and lounge in my daily uniform. Brady doesn't care what I look like, right? He's just going to spit up on me anyway.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. I should probably go pay someone to listen to all my woes, but again, not an acceptable expenditure of Carl's hard earned money. So, lucky readers, YOU get to hear all about it!!! Aren't you sooo happy!!!

Okay, I'll give ya'll one picture to look at as a thank you for bearing with me. Brady is teaching the missionaries about how to get babes when they get home. You can't see it, but his shirt says "Babes Want Me." Thanks, Chelsey.

Building a fence-Take Two

Don't fence me in!!! Okay, well, maybe you can. We did it!! Rather, Carl and some elders from the branch did it. Thank you to Josh, who helped us pick up the supplies; Todd, who came over and got the string lined up, dug some holes, took on the gate, and pretty much was the impromptu mastermind for the entire project; Dave, who kept the team positive and labored very diligently; Elders Winn and Wischmeier, who let us be their service for the week and provided much needed strength and extra hands. Thank you to the families of these men for allowing us to keep them away from home. This fence came out straighter than the one in Sandy. I give the string the credit for that. Haha. That one was a practice run. I really cannot express enough gratitude for the time and effort put into this project. I am proud to be the co-owner of this fence.

Fourth of July 2008

This year was filled with....well....fence building, good food, mosquito abatement and late night fireworks. After a long hard day of fence building (I didn't build any fence, but Carl, Dave and Todd did) we went to Daves house for some good food with the Haskins. Carl forgot suncreen and is sooooo red. All he needed was some blue and he'd be ready for the 4th's festivities (get it, cuz he's already white, and some of his skin was burned?...I'm hilarious.) Then Brady watched the Cubbies and Cardinals play with Dave, a.k.a. Triple Pat. Yea, the Cubbies won!! We drove over to a parking lot to watch the fireworks being set off at the county fair grounds. Brady wasn't even scared a bit!! I wrapped him up in a blanket to try and protect his little ears. Next year we are definately going to get ear plugs!! The little guy ended up sleeping through the last part of the show. It was a good day, very good.

Watching the Game with Uncle Dave.

"I gotta burp before I get to see the show."

Watching the fireworks.

Thanks Momma and Daddy-man! That was pretty fun!

Goof Ball

We got this hat in a box of clothes from Carl's Aunt Janet (thank you, thank you, thank you for the clothes!!) I thought Brady looked pretty goofy. Oh, and he's learning how to play in the exersaucer. He can make all sorts of noise now.

Brady likes to watch Baby Signing Time. I really am excited to have him communicate using Sign Language. The only signs I think he may understand at this point is "milk" and "diaper." I like that I am learning new signs as we watch our DVDs together.

Moving baby

Mr. Brady discovered that he can roll himself over last night. It's fitting that it was back-to-front since he still doesn't enjoy tummy time enough to take the time to figure out how to get off his tummy. We've no proof of this event except for the few eye witnesses as he was done showing off his new skill as soon as we pulled the camera out. We'll catch him one day and post it for all the world to see.
Here is Brady turning around while playing with his friends. He'll scoot himself all over this mat.

Gutters and Garages

*To the tune of "The Ants Go Marching"* The house is coming along, along, hurrah, hurrah. The house is coming along, along HURRAH HURRAH! The house has come along this June, as we work hard, the Behunins two. And it all we be done soon, we hope soon.
Last Saturday we we cleaned and organized a good portion of the garage. It had actually been a work in progress. For two weeks, we went through boxes and boxes of "personal effects" and stored what passed the sentimental test into storage bins. Twelve and a half bins later, we were able to put them in the attic and clear space for storage shelves and a storage cabinet. We can now park 2 cars in the two-car garage. We still have a wall of boxes that need sorting and a home either in the house, garage, or garbage.

Symion is putting in his two cents about which gutter company we should go with.

Today we got gutters installed. Now we can plant things around the house without worrying about them getting washed out. It's all coming along so nicely. The list of "to-dos" is getting shorter as the bank account is getting smaller. Very bittersweet it is.

This weekend we hope to get the remaining side of the fence up, weather permitting. Once again, the Elders of the Branch will be assisting us. This time we are going to use a string to make sure the fence is straight. Although that crooked fence in Sande made for some fond memories and good laughs. May the force be with us as we go into the next project....
